CCSSEA-JPNCCSEA-JPN

「CCSEA-JPN」 is called as Triple C by CCSEA. This organization has the Laboratory of Environmental Modeling and Synthesizing of the Department of Ocean Technology, Policy and Environment from the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences of the University of Tokyo as the core and researchers from Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry, The General Environmental Technos Co., LTD, International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research, Kyushu University, Marine Ecology Research Institute, Research Institute of Innovative Technology for the Earth, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Japan Nus Co., LTD forming a research network about the environmental effects of carbon dioxide capture and storage at the bottom of the sea.

ObjectivesObjectives

This network is aiming for activities related to the environmental effects and analysis of the carbon dioxide storage at the bottom of the sea, execute large scale verification in a safe and smooth way and after that the promotion of CCS commercialization alongside with assistance of japanese CCS technology to outseas.

What is CCSWhat is CCS

Carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) is a technology to control the emission of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere by separating and capturing the carbon dioxide from large scale sources as thermal power plants and isolating and/or storing at the underground or the ocean. In the last few years this is turning out to be a strong option of short period of eliminating carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and is attracting attention inside and outside of Japan.
There is a necessity of tackling diverse topics before entering a stage of practical use such as the advancement of evaluating and monitoring the environmental effects, preparating for legal issues and social receptivity. A large scale verification of carbon dioxide storage at the bottom of the sea is already planned and the same technique is expected to be the main from now on.
